Common questions about gum care
The cost of keeping your teeth and gums healthy will vary depending on the initial state they are in. Unfortunately no matter how good your brushing and flossing maybe, without regular dental scaling and cleaning, plaque build up will continue unabated. If you regularly attend for dental cleaning twice per year, the cost would be between $150-$220. Beyond this time frame, the cost can be quite varied and so it is highly recommended we assess the condition of your gums and teeth before recommending the best cleaning protocol.
If you are not attending regularly for cleaning of your gums and teeth the build up of bacteria can extend much further under the gums. This means regular teeth and gum cleaning is not as effective. Deep cleaning is normally recommended if the build up is too extensive to remove in one appointment. Most often, local anaesthetic is administered to make the procedure painless. Once completed, regular maintenance is recommended to avoid the build-up of bacteria. Regular dental cleaning will avoid the need for deep cleaning.
Receding gums is most commonly caused by poor oral hygiene. Consistent, regular home care (brushing twice daily and flossing) and regular attendance for teeth cleaning will reduce the amount the gums recede over time.
Gingivitis is the start of gum disease. If left unchecked, it can lead to advanced periodontitis and eventual tooth loss. Gingivitis is often painless. The gums though can appear red, inflamed and often bleed. Some patients see blood when they brush their teeth or wake up with bleeding on their pillows. A consultation with us will help determine the best course of action to eliminate this disease.
